Tolleson Elementary School District is committed to provide a safe learning environment for students and staff. We have a detailed emergency plan which has been developed following the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method by the I Love U Guys Foundation www.iloveuguys.org. All district staff have been trained on the four responses in the Standard Response Protocol. The four responses are Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. Should a critical or emergency situation arise, the appropriate response will be initiated. In addition, your child will learn and practice their role during each of the responses.
When necessary, a phone call or letter with safety information will be sent to keep parents and guardians informed of events or issues that may arise at or in proximity to their child’s school. It is imperative that current phone numbers are on file for parents, guardians and emergency contacts. If you need to update your phone number or review current phone numbers and emergency contacts, please visit the office at your child’s school. Please be advised that students will not be released during any emergency response until the reunification process has begun and they will only be released to those adults listed as parents, guardians and emergency contacts.
We encourage all parents and guardians to speak with their children about what to do in the event of an emergency or safety situation. Please review responses that our district has adopted on the handout that is attached with your child. This would also include the best way to communicate and who or where to meet in the event that an incident occurs before or after school, or as they are going to or coming from school. What students learn at school can be brought home and shared with parents, guardians, siblings and neighbors. Ensuring students know how to react during an emergency, how to be attentive and watchful on the way to school and home will help to keep your child safe.
Tolleson Elementary School District uses the Standard Response Protocol by the I Love U Guys Foundation. For more information regarding the foundation and the protocol, please visit their website.
