Ms. Mills - Principal

Ms. Mills is an Arizona native who grew up in the west valley and is a mother of two children.   As a mom and educator, she wants each child to be treated as they were her very own.  She has been involved in education for almost 20 years.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Math Minor from Ottawa University.   She also earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.  She graduated with highest honors and is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa society.

Ms. Mills taught third, sixth and eighth grade in the Deer Valley Unified School District from 1999-2006.  During this time she also coached middle and high school basketball, was the community schools coordinator and was athletic director.  She then joined the Cave Creek Unified School District where she was a middle school assistant principal from 2006-2011. 

She joined the PHG community in July 2011 and loves being part of the Aztec family.  She believes in growth for all students and ensures that each individual student is successful, no exceptions.  She has believes in teacher leadership and is a very visible principal within the school and throughout the Tolleson community.   She is proud that PHG has grown into a “B” rated school and is looking forward to having the first “A” rated school in the district.

Ms. Leon-Ortega - Assistant Principal

Ms. Leon-Ortega was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. She has been involved in education for over 12 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Ms. Leon-Ortega began her career in education with the Isaac School district in 2005. She taught first and second grade at P.T. Coe Elementary School from 2005-2014. In 2014, she became an Instructional Coach for the school. The following year Ms. Leon-Ortega was promoted to the assistant principal position. She served as the assistant principal for two years. It is her honor to join the PHG community this year as the Assistant Principal. Her passion for education involves providing an exciting, rigorous, safe learning environment for ALL students. She is excited more than ever to inspire, engage, and encourage students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom!                        

Outside of school, Ms. Leon-Ortega enjoys running, going to the movies, shopping with her mom and traveling. Overall she loves spending time with her husband and family.
