Letter to the Community - September 26 2023
Dear Tolleson ESD Families & Community;
I would like to start this letter with a big congratulations and thanks to Mr. Kofi White! Mr. White is our physical education teacher at Sheely Farms Elementary School, and he was awarded Champion in Public Education by Save Our Schools! As noted in the award, Mr. White gives his heart and soul to our students. We are forever grateful for his dedication and congratulate Mr. White. Thank you, Mr. White.
I would like to share with you our “spectator expectations” for all our families and community members who attend athletic and other events to support our students.
It is unlikely there will be challenging situations where this is needed, but as a preventative measure I ask you to read below:
Tolleson Elementary School District Spectator Expectations
We are pleased to offer athletic programs and events for our students at Tolleson ESD, and we encourage parents and families to join us as spectators to support their children. It is important that we maintain a healthy and safe environment at all events just as we do in the classroom. Our treasures deserve the best!
Therefore, we ask you to embrace our spectator expectations, and in the unlikely event any member or members of our education community choose not to, they will be verbally warned, ejected from an event, or as needed further suspensions will apply.
Our primary expectation is for everyone to remember these are fun and positive events for our students, and every participant and spectator deserves to be treated respectfully.
The following cannot be exhibited and will not be tolerated at our events: endangering the health or safety of any individual, using profanity, verbal or physical threats, scuffles, or fights. We also require that for the safety of students and children spectators, they be supervised by an adult.
Thank you for adhering to our spectator expectations, and please enjoy the event!
Also, just a quick reminder on upcoming dates for you:
- October 5 and 6 are early release days for students as we host parent/teacher conferences. Please mark the date and be sure to attend. It is an excellent opportunity to sit down with your child prior to the conference to ask how school is going and what they would like you to discuss with their teacher. Are they achieving their goals, feeling good about school and how can you best support them?
- Fall Break is October 9 through October 13, and our schools will be closed during the break.
- November 10 our schools will be closed in honor of Veteran’s Day.
- November 20 through November 24 is Fall Break & Thanksgiving. Our schools will be closed.
I hope you and your family enjoy a great week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lupita Hightower
Treasure Hunter & Superintendent
