Letter to the Community - August 6, 2024
Dear Tolleson ESD Families & Community,
I want to thank our entire community for a great kickoff to the 2024–2025 school year! It was such a pleasure to see our students returning to school last week, and I am grateful for your support!
Our academic parent-teacher team (APTT) meetings are the week of August 19, and I encourage you to be sure to attend your child’s meeting. These meetings are so positive and provide a great opportunity to set goals for and with your child to focus on and achieve all year long. A strategic plan priority goal 2024–2025 for our district is - Intentionally engage parents and caregivers in all aspects of teaching and learning. The APTT is a great way to kick off this off, and we will be focused on collaborating for your child’s learning all year long!
Two other priority goals to discuss with your child’s teacher at APTT include:
- Ensure instruction, curriculum, and assessment are relevant and rigorous to promote academic and life success for students.
- Foster the social-emotional learning, character development, and mental health of all students.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you do not receive a meeting time request prior to August 19. Thank you!
This promises to be a great school year as we focus on the whole child and strive for great student attendance. Because school attendance plays a vital role in your child’s academic and personal growth, we ask that you work to ensure your child is consistently at school. There are so many positive outcomes for children with strong attendance including a higher success rate for graduating from high school and success beyond high school. When children are unnecessarily absent the first month of school, it is a predictor of absenteeism throughout the school year. Let’s start the year with strong attendance and keep it strong all year. If you are struggling in any way to achieve this goal or to support your child in completing their homework assignments, please reach out to your child’s teacher or school counselor so we can support you.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and a great kickoff to the new school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lupita Hightower
