Letter to the Community - February 12, 2024

Dear Tolleson ESD Families & Community;

We are highly focused on effective teaching and learning to ensure we maintain our core philosophy each-and-every day because All students are capable of success—No Exceptions! Our Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) Meetings provide an opportunity to engage with our parents and families to review the goals and progress for each student. They support this core philosophy and our Strategic Plan Priority Goal to intentionally engage parents and caregivers in all aspects of teaching and learning. If you did not have an opportunity to attend your child’s APTT last month, it is never too late. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule.

Because we are focused on delivering high quality out-of-school-time programs along with strong academic programs, we are applying for the following federally funded programs for our four campuses, and we will keep you informed of our progress:

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) initiative provides the only federally funded source dedicated exclusively to out-of-school-time programs.

  • Provides high-quality academic enrichment opportunities for students attending a qualifying school.
  • Engages adult family members in meaningful ways to help their children succeed academically.
  • Creates a rich variety of classes and activities outside of the instructional day that help students become proficient and connect with learning through project-based, hands-on learning.
  • Safe and healthy learning environment. Snacks provided by the school nutrition department.

This month is Black History Month, and we honor the struggles and triumphs of Black Americans throughout history.

Just a reminder that Friday, February 16 is a professional in-service day for our teachers and staff. Our schools will be closed. As we celebrate President’s Day on Monday, February 19, our schools will also be closed. I hope you and your family enjoy the holiday weekend.

Thank you for being part of our Tolleson ESD education community and for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lupita Hightower
