Letter to the Community - April 23, 2024

Dear Tolleson ESD Families & Community,

It was such a pleasure to see so many of you at our Tolleson 5k Walk & Run Saturday morning. Thank you for participating and making it our biggest 5k yet with over 500 participants! We are grateful to our team as well as Tolleson UHSD and the city of Tolleson for partnering with us to make it a great community event.

We have great news to celebrate! Our preschool programs were all recently rated five-star programs by Quality First of Arizona. This is a great accomplishment and honor as it means our programs far exceed the state standards. Please join us as we continue to stay very focused on delivering exceptional programs and expanding our programs to ensure every child can be served. Please support us by reaching out to your local, state, and national elected officials to ask for their support in funding preschool programs for early learners. Let’s be sure our leaders understand the importance because Arizona does not fund preschool, and the resources are so critical to ensure all children are successful!

We also are celebrating our Jobs for Arizona Graduates (JAG), Porfirio H. Gonzales, and Desert Elementary School students who competed nationally in St. Louis. Our Porfirio H. Gonzales students took first place in employability and second place for their LOVE Community Project. Our mariachi band was the only elementary school to perform at the Phoenix College Mariachi Festival on Saturday. Thanks to our outstanding students and their amazing leaders who shine both statewide and nationally!

We are staying focused as we approach May and the end of another great school year! If you have not registered your students for summer camp, please reach out to your school. Thanks for your ongoing support!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lupita Hightower
