Substitute Teachers
Substitute teachers and paraprofessionals play an important role in providing our students with a consistent classroom environment when it is necessary for their teachers to miss school.
Become a Substitute Teacher
We invite you to consider providing substitute services at Tolleson Elementary School District. To apply, please visit our job postings website and select the Paraprofessional or Substitute Teacher posting.
To expedite processing, attach copies of the following to your application:
- Copy of official transcripts
- Copy of your valid Arizona Substitute Teaching Certificate (or nursing license)
- Copy of your valid Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card
To avoid processing delays, ensure that contact information for your former employment supervisors is complete and accurate. We do not accept personal references.

Full Day (4–8 hours) $115.00
Long Term Assignments

Substitute Certification
If you do not have a substitute teaching certificate, you must obtain one before you can begin substitute teaching. Please follow this easy checklist:
- Obtain an Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card. The cost is $67 and the card is good for six years.
- Once you have obtained DPS fingerprint clearance, follow the directions to apply for your Arizona Substitute certificate.
- Once you receive your substitute certificate, please attach a copy of it to your Tolleson ESD online application.
