Substitute Teachers
Substitute teachers and paraprofessionals play an important role in providing our students with a consistent classroom environment when it is necessary for their teachers to miss school.
Become a Substitute
Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute with Tolleson Elementary School District!
Tolleson Elementary School District partners with Educational Services (ESI) to provide quality substitute teachers for all of our schools. We also partner with ESI for non-certified substitute positions such as classified substitutes (paraprofessionals/teacher’s aide) and nurse substitutes.
Substitute teacher compensation is $175 for a full day and $87.50 for a half day.
Substitute paraprofessionals/teacher’s aide is $15 per hour.
Substitute nurse is $25 per hour.
Tolleson ESD substitutes are W-2 employees of ESI but work onsite at the Tolleson ESD schools of their choice and have the support of both ESI and our own Tolleson ESD team.
Once you have completed all application requirements, ESI will notify the district that you are ready to start. If you have questions about the ESI application process, please contact ESI at 480-719-3271 or via email.
Substitute Certification
If you do not have an Arizona substitute teaching certificate, you must obtain one before you can begin substitute teaching. Please follow this easy checklist:
- Obtain an Arizona DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card.
- Once you have obtained an IVP fingerprint clearance card, follow the directions to apply for your Arizona Substitute certificate.
- Once you receive your substitute certificate, you will need to provide a copy of both your IVP card and your substitute certificate to ESI as part of your application process.
